The implementation of the international COIL project “The Ideal City District,” which brings together students from the Academic and Research Institute of Law at Sumy State University and St. John’s University (USA), is actively continuing.
Following the initial phase of introductions and intercultural exchange, the students have transitioned to collaborative teamwork on concepts for an ideal city district. Within international teams, Ukrainian and American participants are discussing the characteristics of urban environments, analyzing residents’ needs, identifying existing challenges, and brainstorming ideas to create a comfortable, accessible, and safe space.
Throughout the process, students exchange observations about the urban spaces in their own cities, compare experiences, and propose unique solutions. Special attention is given to accommodating the needs of diverse demographic groups and making the urban environment more livable for the community.
The next major milestone will be the presentation of the collaborative results. On November 18, the students will showcase their developed team projects, demonstrating their vision of an ideal city district and proposing strategies for urban space improvement.
This project offers students the opportunity not only to apply their theoretical knowledge in practice but also to develop essential skills in international communication, teamwork, critical thinking, and collaborative problem-solving. Furthermore, it promotes intercultural dialogue and strengthens academic cooperation between the two universities.
