On June 2, Associate Professor of the Department of Fundamental Jurisprudence and Constitutional Law, Olha Stohova, participated in the International Online Conference and Barcamp “Leadership for Decent and Meaningful Work,” held within the framework of the THEA Ukraine Lead project.
The THEA Ukraine Lead project supports Ukrainian higher education institutions in overcoming challenges caused by the war and contributes to the country’s post-war recovery. The initiative focuses on strengthening institutional capacity in management and leadership practices, as well as promoting the internationalization of Ukrainian universities.
The international online conference and barcamp brought together rectors, deans, human resources professionals, and other representatives of primarily Ukrainian universities who are committed to ensuring decent working conditions during a period of war and uncertainty, while also enhancing the meaningfulness of work for university staff.
During the interactive sessions, participants explored key concepts and intercultural perspectives on decent and meaningful work within academic communities. The barcamp sessions were participant-driven, allowing attendees to shape the agenda according to their interests and professional needs.
The proposed discussion topics included fair and transparent employment practices, prevention of staff overload and burnout, employee safety and well-being, support for displaced scholars, inclusive and participatory leadership, and cooperation with international partners.
The barcamp provided a safe and collaborative environment for sharing experiences, discussing leadership challenges, exchanging practical tools—such as human resource management practices, communication strategies, and support programs—and jointly developing solutions for the day-to-day management of universities during wartime and in the post-war period.
Participation in such international events contributes to the exchange of best practices, strengthens international academic cooperation, and supports the development of effective leadership approaches in Ukrainian higher education institutions.
