On 12 June, a panel discussion entitled ‘Best Practices in Public Participation: EU Experience for Ukraine’ took place. The event was held as part of the project ‘Citizen Participation: Challenges and European Experience for Ukraine’ (ERASMUS-JMO-2023-HEI-TCH-RSCH).
The event began with opening remarks from the project coordinators Olga STOGOVA, Viktoria PANKRATOVA and Nadiya HOROBETS.
The first to speak was Raluca ONUFREICHUK, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law and Administration of Stefan cel Mare University in Suceava (Romania) and a PhD candidate at the University of Paris ‘Panthéon-Assas’, who delivered a presentation on the topic ‘Algorithmic Agora: Integration of Artificial Intelligence into European Civic Practices’. The speaker familiarised the audience with the practice of using AI in civic participation in EU countries.

The presentation by Anton AVKSEENTIEV, PhD in Political Science, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Political Science, V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, was devoted to the topical issue of “Trust in the authorities and civic participation: a comparative analysis of EU countries”.

A lively discussion was sparked by the presentation by Andrii MOSHI, Head of the Department of Analytics and Communication Strategies at the Public Communications Department of the Sumy City Council, entitled ‘The Charter of the Sumy City Territorial Community as a Code of Civic Participation’.

The participants in the panel discussion concluded that there is a need to disseminate information about tools for citizen participation and best European practices for their application among Ukrainian citizens to ensure sustainable democratic development.
